we thought we had found the perfect stroller (for us) because 1. it looked hot 2. it matches our house 3. good reviews 4. fits in the boot (the back of mobi, our mini cooper) 5. travel system (it clicks with a car seat) is a plus 6. bassinet system means no crib or other non-sense (for our loft)
oh yeah, there is that safety issue. a friend noted it on our registry gave us some info that calls the company into question due to number of child-product-related recalls. bummer. our aim was to buy one stroller and be done with it, so we need something that is both a city stroller, and small enough to mini-coop.
back to the stroller research. our amazon registry has been turned (mostly) into a list of strollers we're looking at with some notes.
a couple of questions: what stroller do you have? do you like it? why? (we've heard from two people now about the BOB revolution - but i don't see (right off the bat) that it's anything more than a stroller, and i've also seen that it will NOT fit in the mini cooper).
second, where do you go for baby-related consumer analysis? (i've already sent a note to my librarian, but i'm 21st century and i want to know what my friends are doing).

Two updates in two days--yippee!
ReplyDeleteWe *love* our Phil & Teds (we've got the Classic, which unfortunately doesn't come in black), but mostly because it makes for such a great double-stroller. It's sort of bulky, so I'm not sure it would pass the mini-cooper boot test. My only complaint is that it's difficult to clean, since you can't take it apart and wash the canvas.
Because space was a huge issue when we had only Gus, we decided to forego the whole travel system, and instead got a snap-n-go to accommodate the car seat. Then we transitioned Gus into a solid MacLaren umbrella stroller when he was around 6 months. Of course that means that you'd have to buy a separate basinet. And while that system worked great for us, now that I have a stroller with pneumatic tires, I can recognize how much nicer it is on both mom/dad and baby. But, in terms of a practical, economical, small, easily collapsible, go-to stroller, the MacLaren is awesome.
My friends who have Bugaboos say they're worth the price; I've pushed a few, and they do offer a pretty sweet ride.
In terms of baby-related consumer analysis, I rely almost entirely on the advice of other parents. I'm sure Seattle has something similar to Berkeley Parents Network or Park Slope Parents, but those were the two places that I always found invaluable advice, including updates on various safety recalls.

We have enjoyed reading reviews on consumersearch.com They explain their reccomendations, which seem to check out with other parents we speak to (we have been approaching people using the products were considering).
We went with the jeep liberty instead of the bob-revolution. We liked the price for the quality, understanding we do not need much more than the basics.
We also got a snap and go to match our infant carrier/carseat (which seems lightweight, durable and perfect for in and out of the car.

we think we've settled on the orbit baby system. in addition to all the other things we thought we had found in the quinny 3, it's green too! one of the reviews said that if strollers were a car, this would be a high-performing hybrid. :) the orbit system is good for airline travel, home (bassinet base), mini cooper (clicks with a base & fits in the back), convenience (one hand collapse & rolls like a suitcase when folded), and comfort (sun/weather guards and swivel to keep V out of the sun or facing us). there was a controversy with consumer reports over whether or not the base is safe, but further research showed us that more testing had been done (twice) in the same lab with consistently safe results, so we feel better about it than the Dorel group products (at least). because we're not buying any baby furniture, and this stroller can go anywhere, including growing up with V for a very long time, we feel good about paying more for the stroller system (but buying less in aggregate over time). will report how it works out ...
ReplyDeleteI've heard very good things about the Orbit system. Three strollers later, I wish I'd originally just ponied up the money and gotten a really nice expensive stroller in the first place. We love the BOB Revolution stroller we have now (which is $389) but originally didn't want to spend more than about $130. We got rid of our cheaper stroller before Reed was even 1.
